The External Affairs and University Relations office offers promotional assistance for newsworthy events of the University of Hawaii campuses.
Once you have gathered all the necessary information about who, what, where, when and why, you can—
- List events on the UH Calendar
- Submit an announcement to News@UH
- Request a press release to be sent
- Pitch your story to UH media, email newsroom@hawaii.edu
- Create a flyer, poster or Web page, email ur@hawaii.edu
- Enlist a photographer
- Run a PSA or calendar item on KTUH radio, email traffic@ktuh.org
- Advertise in Malamalama magazine
Important details to keep in mind
- Plan ahead! Lead times for publicity services vary widely depending on your needs and staff availability.
- online calendars and announcements — one working day
- photo services — one week minimum
- press release services — two weeks minimum
- design, copywriting, web services — varies with complexity and workload
- News@UH online newsletter — two weeks
- broadcast consideration — varies, 3 weeks or more
- Malamalama magazine consideration — approx. 2–3 months
- print quotes — two weeks
- Most services are provided free of charge to UH departments and offices; cost of advertising and printing are paid by the client unit.
- Public relations services and media mentions are not guaranteed, but are based on the timing and newsworthiness of your event or promotion.
- Allow at least 5-7 business days for printing of flyers, posters, brochures etc. after completion of design.
- Read service guidelines and checklists carefully before you submit your request.
