UHM Learning Assistant Program: Imagining Possibilities

A Learning Assistant (LA) is an undergraduate student who works with a lead course instructor to facilitate engagement and encourage active participation in a range of courses and subject areas. The main goals of the LA program include curriculum and course transformation to improve the quality of the instruction and learning outcomes for undergraduates; institutional change to transform the culture at the departmental level to value research-based teaching; and discipline-based education research to continually measure the outcomes of our transformations.

This session will include:

  • An introduction to the LA Program
  • A panel of faculty and students sharing LA program experiences
  • Time in small groups ideating about how the LA program could be integrated into individual classes, programs, and departments
