Scope

The UH Artificial Intelligence Strategy Council (AISC) is co-facilitated by the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Strategy. The Council was created to ensure that UH remains at the forefront of technological advancements that have the potential to shape the future of teaching and learning, and generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in particular. Its applications within the educational sphere offer both promise and pose challenges that warrant our collective attention and expertise.
Generative AI, with its ability to create content, simulate human-like responses, and adapt to individual learning needs, holds the promise of revolutionizing the way education is delivered. The potential benefits include personalized learning experiences, increased accessibility, and the ability to scale education to reach a broader audience. These advancements have the potential to empower our faculty, staff, and students, fostering a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

However, along with these opportunities come important questions and concerns. How do we ensure the ethical use of AI in education? What impact might AI have on faculty roles and traditional pedagogical approaches? Are there potential biases or privacy issues that need to be addressed? These are critical questions that require our careful consideration. The AISC will study the potential uses and challenges of artificial intelligence, and generative AI tools in particular, while providing insights and recommendations to UH leadership.
