Roy Kamida is a professor in accounting at Leeward Community College. For more than 30 years, he has served as an outstanding instructor of accounting and computer courses.

He has also served as an accounting coordinator, business division chair, accreditation subcommittee chair and president of the Hawai‘i Business Education Association (HBEA). Kamida was also the treasurer for the Western Business and Information Technology Educators and was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to Business Education by HBEA.

Kamida will often give and pass on credit to his colleagues instead of being singled out for his hard work and performance. His coordination and leadership of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at Leeward is one community service activity Roy should be applauded for. In addition to coordinating the marketing and scheduling of the VITA program, he also oversees the recruitment, training and certification of the volunteers.

The commitment, dedication and energy Roy has exemplified in and out of the classroom is a vital component to the Leeward CC community.

The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student.

The award was established by family members to honor the namesakes’ role in development of the food industry in Hawai‘i.
