University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo basketball players Kamalu Kamakawiwoole and Charles Elzie III were selected as the KTA Super Stores Superstars of the Month. The award goes to one male and one female Vulcans student-athlete for their stand-out accomplishments.

Kamakawiwoole posted a career-high 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals in a 74-71 win over Point Loma on January 6. The fifth-year senior capped her performance with back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minute of play to seal the victory. She also posted 24 points (7-11 FG) and hit a deep buzzer-beating bucket to help the Vulcans claim victory over Chaminade on January 30.

In the first game of 2024 against Concordia University Irvine, Elzie surpassed 1,000 career points spanning from his first four seasons at The College of Idaho in the NAIA. In a narrow two-point loss to Azusa Pacific, Elzie posted a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting while going 8 for 10 at the free throw line. Against Point Loma on January 4, he scored a 3-pointer to tie the game with seconds to go only to watch the Sea Lions pull off a half-second buzzer-beating win. Elzie also tied the score on an inside basket against HPU on January 20 to send the game to overtime, later giving the Vulcans the lead on a 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining.
