The University of Hawaiʻi Hilo women’s volleyball team has been honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.
The AVCA honors teams that have a 3.3 grade point average or higher through the spring semester. The Vulcan volleyball squad posted a 3.39 team GPA at the conclusion of the 2016–17 school year. Four other Pacific West Conference schools (out of 14 total) also earned this honor—Azusa Pacific, California Baptist, Chaminade and Point Loma.
“It’s a remarkable accomplishment on many fronts to win this award,” said UH Hilo head coach Gene Krieger. “They have to be very disciplined and focused to be successful on and off the court.”
“A special thank you goes out to our UH Hilo professors, who are willing to work with our student-athletes to help them be successful,” Krieger added. “This great accomplishment could not of been reached without many parties being involved.”
