Helmut Kae
Leeward
Helmut Kae is an assistant professor in biology at Leeward Community College.
His teaching style and philosophy centers around empowering students. He is described as being passionate, engaging, motivational, inspiring and extremely knowledgeable.
He has contributed to the college and the community by serving on the faculty senate, co-chairing the Leeward Discovery Fair, serving as a Wo Learning Champion, receiving the Laulima Innovation Award, serving as biology discipline coordinator and volunteering as the Leeward Regional Hawaii State Science Olympiad Director.
He is a campus leader, master teacher, mentor to students and faculty and a true believer in “paying it forward,” Kae has made it his mission to help others along their professional journey as others have helped him.
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
