U H fans

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa football team will host Vanderbilt of the Southeastern Conference in the 2022 season opener on Saturday, August 27 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. Kick-off is 4:30 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

Timmy Chang, former Rainbow Warrior record breaking quarterback and NCAA all-time passing leader, begins his inaugural season as head coach after taking over his alma mater’s team in January. The season opener marks the beginning of Chang’s “Braddahhood” era.

Season opener game theme: “Everything Green”

Fans are encouraged to show their school spirit with the Hawaiʻi Athletics fan color scheme guide (PDF) for every regular season home football game. The season opener color scheme is a “Green-Out” and all fans are encouraged to wear green.

Game sponsor Bank of Hawaiʻi will distribute 2,000 light sticks and award over 42,000 Hawaiian Airlines Miles during the game. Various other prizes and giveaways will be available, including:

  • First 3,000 fans receive a UH Football card, presented by Waikiki Malia by Outrigger, with a chance to redeem for a special prize
  • Free souvenir cards and schedule cards will be available for fans
  • Farmers T-shirts will be tossed into the stands between the first and second quarters
  • One lucky student will compete in the “Raising Cane’s Quarterback Challenge” for a chance to win Raising Cane’s for a year
  • When the ‘Bows score two touchdowns, fans win two free tacos from Jack in the Box. Fans can bring their game tickets to a Jack in the Box location to redeem the offer.

Pre-game concert: The Green

U H football pregame concert The Green

Popular reggae band The Green will help kick off the 2022 football season with a special pre-game concert at 2:30 p.m. at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The concert is only open to ticket holders of the UH-Vanderbilt game and admission is free. Game tickets will be scanned upon entrance to SimpliFi Arena. Seating is general admission.

Arena gates open at 1:30 p.m. and parking gates open at 12:30 p.m. Only those with pre-purchased football parking passes will be allowed into the Lower Campus parking structure. All others will be directed to Upper Campus lots through either East-West Road or Maile Way.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase inside the arena. No outside food and beverages are allowed and there will be no re-entry into the concert.
