The feedback from the groups will be used for the purpose of gathering detail and to provide input for the design of a system-wide Student Survey to be administered in early 2019. There will be no formal summary available. The results of the larger Survey will be made available once the data has been collected and analyzed.

Yes, the groups will be both audio and video recorded and this is for OmniTrak’s reporting purposes only. The recordings will be used internally at OmniTrak and will not be released.

Absolutely! This is the primary reason the University has contracted with OmniTrak Group, Inc. a local, professional research firm to facilitate the groups. Your candid feedback will be used for research purposes only and never tied back to you individually. In OmniTrak’s summary of the groups, statements such as …the group tended to feel this way or the men in the group reacted this way when shown the stimuli….. will be used. Again, what you contribute will never be tied back to you individually and your name will never be used in the summary.

Focus groups are sponsored by the University of Hawai’i System Office of EEO/TIX as part of the University’s student survey initiative. The Office of EEO/TIX has selected OmniTrak Group Inc., an independent market research company based in Honolulu, to administer the focus groups and 2019 student survey on sexual harassment and sex-based violence.

A focus group is a small group of people engaged in a roundtable discussion on a selected topic. The session is led by a professional moderator, independent of the university. The
role of the Moderator is to guide the discussion to effectively obtain the opinions of all participants. Focus groups provide a useful means of assessing attitudes and feelings on a
specific topic. The group is limited to 8-10 participants, therefore giving everyone opportunity to contribute in the time allotted.
