Dear International Students,
The International Student Services would like to bring your attention to the recent reports of possible travel bans for entry into the United States. These reports suggest additional scrutiny applied to nationals from some countries, similar to countries included in the 2017 travel ban: Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen, in addition to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The scope of this travel ban or any potential restrictions is not clear. We advise students to exercise caution when planning international travel. If you are a citizen of one of these countries, we advise that you avoid non-essential travel outside of the United States until more information is available. Changes in visa processing, entry requirements and potential delays could impact your ability to re-enter the United States.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you posted as things continue to evolve and as information is issued by the Department of State. Please keep in mind that we do not have definitive information including which countries or visa categories would be affected, or the timing of any potential restrictions.
We understand that this uncertainty may cause stress and disruption to your travel plans. If you have further questions and concerns please do not hesitate to contact the International Student Services UH Manoa office: issmanoa@hawaii.edu We are also available via phone and Zoom/in-person appointment: www.hawaii.edu/issmanoa
Aloha and Take Care,
International Student Services
