President Biden Adds India to the List of COVID-19 Public Health Travel Ban Countries

April 30, 2021, President Biden signed a proclamation effective May 4, 2021, which bars entry of travelers coming from India. This same type of travel ban is already in effect for Brazil, China, Iran, Ireland, countries in the European Schengen Area, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Foreign nationals who have been physically present in India within 14 days of their  travel to the U.S will be barred from entry, unless they qualify for an exception.

The Department of State’s April 26, 2021 National Interest Exception (NIE) policy that covers Brazil, China, Iran, Ireland, countries in the European Schengen Area, South Africa and the United Kingdom, also now included travelers from India.
