Kimi Kondo-Brown

I am Professor of Japanese in the Department of East Asian Languages & Literatures. I am also Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Arts, Languages & Letters. I specialize in Japanese language pedagogy, assessment, and heritage language studies. I have published books and edited volumes with leading publishers in the field. I have also published numerous research papers in refereed journals or as peer-reviewed book chapters. Reviews of my work were published in the major international refereed journals such as The Modern Language JournalLanguage & EducationSecond Language ResearchThe Canadian Modern Language Review, and so forth. I have also been the principal investigator for two federally funded NRCEA (National Resource Center East Asia) projects: heritage language project (2002–2006) and Japanese testing/assessment project (2007–2011). In addition, I have numerous refereed presentations at local, national, and international conferences. I have also delivered many invited keynote/plenary talks in the U.S. as well as other regions of the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific regions such as Japan, China, Singapore, and Canada (in the Vancouver area).
